What are Mandaps and what are they used for?

All traditional Hindu weddings take place in a mandap.

The decor of the mandap may change from region to region but the wedding is held only at the mandap.

As according to Hindu traditions and customs weddings should be held in an open space where a canopy or mandap is constructed. The ritual of jaimala in which the bride and the groom put garland around each other as a sign of welcoming is held under the mandap or canopy. The place where the main wedding ceremony is held is a colorful and beautifully decorated mandap.
